PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY

These short-term therapeutic homes (crisis homes) were established to support children in crisis. This includes but is not limited to intensive Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychiatric services, mental health counseling, 1 to 1 staff-to-client ratios. The goal is to quickly stabilize a client so they can step down to a lower level of support. Short-term is generally considered 2-6 months; however, every client responds to the treatment differently. In addition to trying to mitigate behaviors such as physical aggression, property destruction, AWOL, and self-injurious the team also concurrently work on teaching skills that will hopefully prepare them for the next setting.

“My name is Gloria Vega, and I have worked with Turning Point for 18 ½ years. Turning Point is great, I can’t say enough about this company. They are very supportive of the staff and the children. The environment at Northern Lights feels like a family. We all support each other when needed and my Program Director is the best. She is always available to support us when we need her no matter what. Jason Moore has been awesome and I have a great deal of respect for him. He has treated me very well since the beginning. Jason is also very understanding. Alicia Carroll has also been very supportive throughout the years. It has been a very rewarding job and I love working with the children in fact that is why I stay in this field. I like helping them achieve their goals and enjoy watching them learn independent living skills, social skills and community skills. It is so much fun to watch them learn and grow. I can’t imagine myself doing anything else. My work with the children is my passion and it has made me a better person. I will definitely remain at Northern Lights until I retire.
